Red Imp Films launched in 2025 with a mandate to create stories that don’t just entertain but challenge and inspire audiences.
Founded on a shared passion for thoughtful, genre-bending storytelling, the company set out to build a body of work that could stand apart in an increasingly crowded entertainment landscape.
As a new production company, Red Imp needed more than a logo. They needed a strategic foundation and visual identity to articulate their point of view, attract creative collaborators, and establish a distinctive presence in the industry. Emerging at a cultural moment when audiences were growing tired of franchises, reboots, and algorithm-driven programming, Red Imp saw an opportunity to create stories that demand attention rather than simply fill time.
The process began with a discovery session and brand immersion that explored Red Imp Films’ ambitions, creative philosophy, and place within the entertainment landscape. Through strategic workshops, audience prototypes, cultural research, and competitive analysis, we established a clear brand role and provided a framework for future growth.
Next, we dove headfirst into visual research and concept development, starting with the company’s namesake. The character of the Red Imp comes from local folklore originating in co-founder Will Jeff’s home city of Lincoln, where the iconic Lincoln Cathedral was built in the Middle Ages. Legend has it that a mischievous imp once broke into the Cathedral and started smashing the stained-glass windows, causing it to be turned to stone — where it remains on a pillar in the church to this day. The identity needed to acknowledge this legacy of mischief and defiance, without becoming overly literal or decorative.
At the centre of the identity is an impish icon that embodies the brand’s mischievous character, while feeling polished and professional enough to stand alongside premium entertainment brands. The mark transforms a centuries-old folkloric figure into a contemporary symbol of boundary-pushing creativity.
Supporting the icon is a fully custom wordmark inspired by the Gothic embellishments of Lincoln Cathedral. The letterforms were carefully designed to pay homage to medieval design and architecture, while maintaining a fresh, contemporary edge.
The colour palette of red, deep purple, and cream reinforces the brand’s theatrical qualities, bringing a sense of depth, contrast and intensity.
Together, the visual identity and logo animation positioned Red Imp Films as a confident, disruptive force in the industry, resonating with collaborators, audiences, and industry partners alike.
